  • Buffalo History.  "Buffalo History is an Internet mailing list intended for discussion of the history of the Buffalo, NY metropolitan area.

Buffalo is a city with a wealth of history. From the early French settlement of Joncaire, the burning of the village by the British during the War of 1812, and the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, Buffalo's history rolls forward like a richly woven tapestry.

Despite the vital role that it played in the opening of the west and in the settlement of the country, Buffalo's history is often under-appreciated and neglected, and frequently buried beneath a veneer of surface parking lots, industrial decay and big box drugstores.

Discussion and announcements regarding local history, genealogy, folklore, historic preservation, research, libraries, archives, etc. related specifically to the Buffalo, NY metropolitan area are appropriate to this list. Memories of life in Buffalo, of weather, people, businesses, stores, restaurants, and, of course, food are also appropriate."

Discussion is limited to built environment-related events, meetings, hearings, projects, issues, or concerns within the city limits of Buffalo, NY, though the members may post articles about other places if they make clear the relevance to Buffalo."
  • Buffalo Lifestyles.  "Buffalo, NY is a city of closely tied politics and business that is virtually controlled from the top down. It is very difficult to find unfiltered publicly accessible forums in order to criticize anything that goes on within either sector - even on the Internet. You can email their local web pages, of course, but that doesn't allow you to find or connect with others. There is no voice of individuality within Buffalo.

This is meant to provide some kind of publicly accessible forum, for want of others. Do you want to say something critical about The Buffalo News without relying on The Buffalo News to make it known? Do it here. Do you want to say something similar about News Channels 2, 4, 7, etc.? Speak here. Do the same for anything relating to the Buffalo area, whether it be the aforementioned local fixtures, an editor, a commentator, the Mayor, a school, a store, ...an idiot in the DMV - whatever."

However, we will also address consumer advocacy issues with regard to concerns about the quality of health care in corporate health care, limitation in health care choices/out-of-network physicians available in WNY as well as the ways in which health insurance limits our health care choices or promotes substandard care. This is a supportive environment in which to express frustrations and concerns as well as a grassroots sounding board in which to address how to make our local health care system more responsive to patients as consumers, or aid those stepping out of network in their search for answers.
